I cannot believe all of the amazing deals we are getting lately from Washington State! Here is another one that I would not hesitate to add to your cellar.
Spring Valley Vineyards is a historic property nestled in the hills of Walla Walla, Washington. The winery is tucked away among local wheat fields, which harkens back the original use of the land when Francis Corkrum and his wife Mary Jane Killebrew Corkrum built their homestead in 1865. Vines were not planted until 1993 and the first harvest came in 1999 with Uriah Red Blend, named after Francis and Mary Jane's 5th son.
About the wine: Uriah is a blend of roughly equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Truth be told, I prefer Merlot-based wines from Washington State over Cabernet Sauvignon, which can have a bit too much stuffing for me at times. Not that this wine lacks depth or breadth at all; it is loaded with blue and red fruits, along with pleasing spicy component. The oak is already well-integrated and it has at least another decade of development. For those into numbers, a 94 point score from Jeb Dunnuck should buttress my own praise for this vintage of Uriah.
Without a doubt, I would put 2021 Spring Valley Uriah up against a wine from St. Emilion that costs twice as much, in part because this wine should cost double what we are charging. At $29.99, you better believe a 6 pack is going home with me tonight.
