Premier Cru Gems at Unbelievable Prices

On my way out of town last Friday, I received a closeout offer and immediately jumped on two incredible Premier Cru Burgundies from a pair of my favorite producers: Domaine Guy Amiot and Famille Savary.

I’ve always lived by two principles when it comes to luck:

  1. Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good.
  2. The harder I work, the luckier I get.

Well, today’s deals have nothing to do with hard work—they’re all about pure luck.

On my way out of town last Friday, I received a closeout offer and immediately jumped on two incredible Premier Cru Burgundies from a pair of my favorite producers: Domaine Guy Amiot and Famille Savary.

The lucky part? I had no idea these wines were sitting in inventory before they were closed out. Had I known, I probably would have purchased them at full price. Instead, I’m able to offer them at retail prices below what my wholesale cost would have been—a rare win-win for both The Wine and Cheese Place and our customers.

Now, enough about my good fortune. Let’s talk about the wines.

First up is the outstanding 2022 Domaine Guy Amiot Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Arvelets. This stunning wine comes from a tiny 0.2-hectare parcel of 70-year-old vines planted on ideal south-facing slopes. It’s hard to imagine a better site for producing an approachable, early-drinking Pommard. The result is a bottle that showcases all the grace, elegance, and finesse that make great Burgundy so compelling.

Next, we have the brilliant 2024 Famille Savary Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru. Remember when top-tier Premier Cru Chablis could still be found for under $50? So do I. This Savary bottling feels like a welcome trip back to those days. A fantastic producer, a renowned vineyard, and classic Chablis character—all at a price that’s becoming increasingly rare. Great vineyard, great producer, great wine, and best of all, a great price.
