Though we have crafted hundreds of wines from dozens of vineyards across California since then, the one constant has been the wine from this exceptional vineyard—it remains the most important (or “flagship,” in marketing speak) wine we produce. In many ways, the Bedrock Vineyard Heritage Wine most closely mirrors the evolution of the winery: it has grown from the initial six barrels made in 2007; its style has shifted subtly over time from an eager shout to a more assured confidence; and the vineyard itself has transitioned from conventional farming to become the only ancient-vine site in California that is Regenerative Organic Certified.
Sonoma County Zinfandel is on a serious roll. After a terrific 2023 vintage, 2024 looks every bit as exciting—and we’re fortunate here in St. Louis to have access to many of California’s greatest Zinfandel producers: Ridge Vineyards, Martinelli, Turley, and, of course, perennial TWCP favorite Bedrock Wine Co.
And today, we have an absolute banger from Bedrock: the 2024 Bedrock “Bedrock Heritage.”
Bedrock Heritage sits at or near the top of the Zinfandel hierarchy nearly every year, but the 2024 may be something special even by those lofty standards. In fact, this just might be the pick of the litter from a vintage loaded with great Zinfandel.
Much like the 2023 Ridge Pagani Ranch, this latest Bedrock comes armed with a massive 98-point score from Jeb Dunnuck—my true north when it comes to Zinfandel acclaim. And, like the Pagani, it takes about one sip to understand what all the fuss is about.
The rest of the bottle is simply there to confirm your suspicions.
