Melt Into Fall: Raclette Is Back!

Melt Into Fall: Raclette Is Back!

Raclette Is Back!

October is here, the temperatures are starting to drop, and you know what that means: Raclette season has officially arrived!

The requests are already rolling in, and we’re happy to say that Raclette is back in the cheese case. As usual, we’re carrying both French and Swiss Raclette, giving you two delicious ways to enjoy one of our favorite cool-weather cheeses.

So, What Is Raclette?

Raclette is both a cheese and a centuries-old Alpine tradition. The name comes from the French word racler, meaning “to scrape”—which is exactly how the cheese is traditionally served. A wheel or large piece of Raclette is warmed until the surface becomes bubbling and molten, then that glorious layer of melted cheese is scraped directly onto potatoes, vegetables, bread, charcuterie, or just about anything else that could benefit from a blanket of warm cheese.

And really, what couldn’t?

Raclette is especially famous for melting. It becomes wonderfully creamy and gooey without losing its personality, making it perfect for a traditional Raclette dinner with friends and family.

French or Swiss?

We carry both French and Swiss Raclette, and while they share the same Alpine heritage and exceptional melting ability, each brings its own personality to the table.

Swiss Raclette tends to offer the classic Alpine experience: rich, savory, nutty, and wonderfully satisfying. French Raclette can bring its own range of earthy, buttery, and aromatic flavors. Trying them side by side is half the fun—and there’s no rule saying you have to choose only one for your Raclette night.

Don't Just Melt It!

Here’s the part that sometimes gets overlooked: Raclette is a great table cheese, too.

If your only experience with Raclette involves melting it, try a slice on its own. At room temperature, you can really appreciate the cheese’s supple texture and savory, nutty, earthy character.

Pair it with crusty bread, cornichons, cured meats, mustard, apples, or pears for an easy fall cheese board. And, naturally, Raclette gives us plenty of opportunities to open a bottle. Crisp, refreshing white wines are traditional partners because their acidity provides a delicious contrast to the richness of the cheese.

Raclette Season Starts Now
