I’m thrilled to welcome Allie Martin from Vineyard Brands to The Wine & Cheese Place on Forsyth for a special tasting of Tablas Creek Vineyard.
Tablas Creek produces some of the very few California Rhône-style wines that I consistently recommend as an equal—and sometimes even better—alternative to their French counterparts. These are wines I’m always excited to put in front of people.
And Tablas Creek is certainly no newcomer to California’s Rhône Ranger movement.
Founded in 1989, Tablas Creek was created as a partnership between the Perrin family of Château de Beaucastel in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and the Haas family of Vineyard Brands. After a four-year search for the right site, the partners chose Paso Robles for its similarities to France’s Southern Rhône.
From there, they undertook the painstaking process of importing Rhône vine cuttings, establishing a grapevine nursery, and building an estate vineyard from the ground up.
Today, the Tablas Creek estate is certified organic and Biodynamic® by Demeter USA, and it has become one of the benchmark producers for Rhône varieties in California.
These are serious wines with their roots firmly planted in Paso Robles soil but their soul in the Southern Rhône.
