  • Distilled 1-2018
  • Bottled 6-2026

  • Distilled in Kentucky, aged in Kentucky

We are proud to offer this Rare Character Single Barrel Rye, bottled at a natural cask strength of 116.32 proof after 8 years and 4 months of maturation. Distilled in Kentucky from the classic 95% rye / 5% malted barley mash bill.

Rare Character does not divulge where their whiskey is distilled but this barrel is believed to originate from one of Kentucky's premier contract distilleries, Bardstown Bourbon Company. Older Kentucky-distilled 95/5 ryes are relatively uncommon (this being one of the older ones), making this a unique opportunity to taste this mash bill at an older age that was not distilled at MGP (this is a common mashbill at MGP). Shows vibrant mint and floral notes layered with baking spices, citrus, cocoa, vanilla, and mature oak, delivering exceptional depth while preserving the bold spice that defines a great rye whiskey.

A very special barrel - the top floor of one of the "cult" Old Forester Warehouses!

Warehouse K -- Floor 8

What makes Warehouse K special

  • Warehouse K was built in 1953 and is one of Old Forester's modern heat-cycled rickhouses. Unlike older, naturally ventilated warehouses, it uses controlled heat cycling to encourage the whiskey to move in and out of the oak throughout the winter months.
  • Master Taster Jackie Zykan has said Warehouse K developed a "cult following among bourbon connoisseurs." In fact,in 2021 Old Forester released their entire second release of their 117 Experimental Series bottling dedicated solely to Warehouse K because of its reputation.
  • Top Floor: Our barrel was on the the 8th floor which is the top floor  and is the hottest and has the most fluctuation.

"The 6th, 7th, and 8th floors of J Warehouse are always pretty intense." - Jackie Zykan

132.8 proof

Old Forester Single Barrel Barrel Strength from Warehouse J, Floor 7 showcases one of the distillery's most coveted aging locations. Former Master Taster Jackie Zykan has singled out the 6th, 7th, and 8th floors of Warehouse J as producing particularly intense barrels, where elevated temperatures create exceptional concentration and complexity. Bottled at a 132.8 proof, this one has a full-bodied profile of caramel, banana Foster, dark cherry, chocolate, and baking spice wrapped in a rich, viscous mouthfeel and a long oak-driven finish. For Old Forester enthusiasts, Warehouse J Floor 7 is widely regarded as one of the premier locations for exceptional barrel strength picks
