Saint Damien Gigondas Veilles Vignes 2023

. Original price: . Final price: $38.99

Domaine Saint Damien, located in the heart of the Rhône Valley, is renowned for its traditional winemaking techniques and dedication to producing high-quality wines. The Gigondas Vieilles Vignes is a blend primarily composed of Grenache, with smaller proportions of Mourvèdre and Syrah, sourced from old vines that impart depth and complexity. The wine is crafted in the Gigondas appellation, known for its robust and full-bodied reds. It undergoes fermentation in concrete vats, followed by aging in large oak foudres, which enhances its structure without overwhelming the fruit character. The wine exhibits a rich flavor profile with notes of dark berries, spices, and a hint of earthiness, supported by firm tannins and balanced acidity. It pairs beautifully with hearty dishes such as lamb stew, grilled meats, and aged cheeses.

Professional Scores

94

Based on 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvèdre and aged 12 months in 50-hectoliter foudre, the 2023 Gigondas Vieilles Vignes offers darker berries, pepper, sappy garrigue, and smoked meat-like aromatics. It's medium to full-bodied on the palate, with a pure, layered, elegant mouthfeel, fine, polished tannins, and nicely integrated acidity. It's a gorgeous, clean, complex, layered Gigondas that should drink well over the coming 10-15 years.
