The Saouma’s purchased a desolate plot of land in Orange in 2011. A minimal intervention approach combined with the image of the original barren land inspired the name of the wine, INOPIA, which translates to “made from nothing” in Latin.
Like his Châteauneuf-du-Papes, Mounir’s Inopia exhibits tremendous finesse and balance. Silky, elegant with transparent and pure red fruit flavors and aromas. Mostly Grenache Noir, along with a little Mourvèdre, Counoise, Syrah and Cinsault.
The medium-bodied 2020 Côtes-du-Rhône Inopia Rouge is a little reductive at this showing. Time in the glass brings out delicate raspberry, strawberry and violet aromas. Minty traces add another layer. Slightly chalky tannins provide good structure to what essentially is a promising 2020 Côtes-du-Rhône Rouge with aging potential.
