The inaugural Heaven Hill Grain to Glass Bourbon is a fascinating departure from the distillery’s traditional bourbon recipe. Heaven Hill partnered with family-owned Beck’s Hybrids to select the Beck’s 6158 corn seed, chosen in part for its high starch content and suitability for Central Kentucky, then had it locally grown by Peterson Farms in Nelson County.

The whiskey is especially interesting because of its unusually high-rye mashbill—35% rye, more than triple the rye content of Heaven Hill's traditional Elijah Craig/Evan Williams bourbon recipe. That produces a richer, spicier style with caramel, vanilla and sweet corn layered with cinnamon, pepper, baking spice and toasted oak. Bottled at a robust 107 proof, this first-edition release is both a showcase for a specific corn varietal and an unusually transparent look at Heaven Hill whiskey from seed to bottle
