Diaspora Co. Garam Masala Spice Blend

Twelve spices, one deeply aromatic blend. Diaspora Co. Garam Masala combines 12 single-origin, freshly harvested spices, carefully roasted and blended for a balance of spicy, sweet, earthy, and zesty flavors. This versatile South Asian spice blend brings complexity to everything from a comforting pot of lentils to a tray of roasted vegetables. Garam masala recipes vary from family to family. Diaspora Co. tested 25 versions and developed five of its own before settling on this blend, choosing each spice for its flavor, freshness, and potency. The spices come from 58 small regenerative family farms across India and Sri Lanka. As part of its commitment to a more equitable spice trade, Diaspora Co. reports paying its farm partners an average 4× premium. How to use it: Stir into dal, chickpea dishes, and curries, or toss with olive oil and cauliflower before roasting. Mix a little into a yogurt marinade for chicken or vegetables. Start with a small amount, taste, and adjust to let the blend complement your other ingredients. Why we love it: It brings a carefully considered balance of flavors to the kitchen without asking you to measure out a dozen spices. The thoughtful sourcing gives us another reason to reach for the tin.
