Delas St Joseph Saint Epine 2017

. Original price: . Final price: $89.99
Nestled in the heart of the Saint Joseph appellation, in the commune of Saint-Jean-de-Muzols, Sainte-Épine is home to a rare terroir of barely one hectare set within a natural southeast-facing amphitheatre, a symbolic extension of l'Hermitage hill. This single-vineyard wine develops a generous mid-palate volume, a firm yet elegant tannic mouthfeel, and aromatics that are precise and never showy. A red wine of substance and tension, sculpted from the rock and destined for long ageing, it reveals its complexity slowly over time.

A suave and smoky style, with sandalwood, black tea, olive, juniper and bay leaf notes leading the way, followed by a core of lightly steeped bitter plum and blackberry fruit. Concentrated, showing latent length as all the elements take a late encore, supported by a lingering mineral echo. Should unwind a bit more slowly than most of its colleagues. Best from 2022 through 2035.
