Amapola Creek Vineyards is located on Moon Mountain above Sonoma Valley. Renowned winemaker and founder Richard Arrowood built a reputation for varietal exploration and quality wines in what was to become the Moon Mountain District, officially established in 2013. Now owned by Brion Wise of B. Wise Vineyards, his neighbor on the mountain, Amapola Creek carries on Richard’s legacy—producing quality wines of balance and foresight, taking advantage of the soils and climate in an area known for its Cabernet Sauvignon and other serious reds since the late 1800s. 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 4% Mourvèdre, 3% Petite Sirah, 3% Petit Verdot. Deep purple in color. Dried berries, bramble, cocoa, evergreen mint, and savory herbal aromas. Flavors of blueberry, black currant white pepper, vanilla, cedar, smoke, black cherry, violets, beef jerky, walnut, clove, earth, and wet leaves. This is a dry wine with medium plus acidty, high chalky tannins, full body with medium plus flavor intensity, and medium plus finish.
Food Pairing: smoked beef rib tips, braised meat with rosemary and garlic, BBQ pulled pork with dark smoky sauce, charred eggplant with tahini and walnut, mushroom truffle risotto, aged cheddar, smoked gouda, blue cheese, rustic sourdough with blackberry jam and smoked meats.
