The first rye produced by Barton 1792

1792 Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey is produced at Barton 1792 Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky and bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV). Barton does not disclose the exact mash bill, but describes it as a traditional Kentucky-style rye.  Barton sources its rye grain from three regions: Canadian rye contributes floral character, northern U.S. rye provides peppery spice, and European rye adds bready, herbal depth. It uses the same proprietary bourbon yeast, distillation proof, and barrel-entry proof as 1792 Bourbon. Master Distiller Ross Cornelissen says it is matured “well beyond” four years, although it carries no formal age statement.

The profile starts with warm baking spices and spiced fruit/jelly, followed by assertive rye spice, cinnamon candy and rich molasses, finishing with mulling spices and sweet oak. At 100 proof, it should retain plenty of rye intensity while keeping the sweeter, fruit-forward Barton house character.
