Chimney Rock Cabernet Sauvignon 40th Anniversary 2023

. Original price: . Final price: $115.99
Chimney Rock is a 100% estate-grown winery in Napa Valley's Stags Leap District, founded by Hack and Stella Wilson, who planted the former Chimney Rock golf course in 1980 and built the Cape Dutch-style winery as a nod to their years in South Africa. The Terlato family became partners in 2000 and sole owners in 2004, and winemaker and general manager Elizabeth Vianna has guided the cellar since 2005. This 2023 bottling marks the 40th vintage of Chimney Rock's Stags Leap District Estate Cabernet Sauvignon and is drawn from all 26 blocks on the property. The blend is 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec, aged 18 months in French oak, 40% new, at around 14.5% ABV. James Suckling gave it 94 points for its balance and elegance, with raspberry, black cherry, dark chocolate and baking spice; Jeb Dunnuck scored it 93, citing crème de cassis, red plum, graphite, chalky minerality and rose florals over a structured, medium to full-bodied frame built to drink through 2040; Vinous added 91. Pair it with roast lamb, filet mignon or duck breast. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release. 750ml bottle.

So well-balanced, elegant and drinkable. This full-bodied red is moderately tannic, showing deep flavors of raspberries, black cherries, dark chocolate and baking spices. While velvety and approachable, it also delivers great complexity and length. Drink now or hold.
