Winery notes:

2022 delivered a near-perfect harvest. Sourced from a 0.18-acre block of meter x meter vines on a southwest-facing slope. Single-stake echalas training with high-density layout and tall canopies protect clusters from Red Mountain heat and wind.

Fully destemmed, 8 days on skins, pressed to sandstone jarre, neutral oak, and new French oak (69% amphorae, 31% new oak). Aged 14–15 months on lees. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Honeyed tropical fruits, citrus, white flowers, green almonds, and mineral tones. Full-bodied with luxurious, silky texture and bright acidity. Drink: 2026–2031.

Blended with 14% Roussanne and aged in 31% new oak (a portion is in clay jars), the 2022 Marsanne is the biggest, richest white of the trio, revealing a killer bouquet of honeyed tropical fruits, orange marmalade, crushed stone, white flowers, and green almonds. Full-bodied, concentrated, and beautifully textured, with a blockbuster-styled, salty finish, this reminds me of a great Hermitage Blanc from the likes of Michel Chapoutier. It too should easily evolve for a decade, although I love it today.

The 2022 Marsanne opens with a lemon oil freshness as a mix of Mediterranean herbs, green melon and freshly crushed peaches evolves in the glass. This displays elegant textures, rich yet energetic, with a stimulating core of sour citrus and mineral tones adding lovely depth as nectarine and exotic spice swirl throughout. The 2022 cleans up beautifully through its long and potent finish, leaving a gentle tannic tension and saline resonance that keeps me looking back to the glass for more. The balance here is otherworldly. (EG)
