Morlet Family Vineyards, known for their artisanal approach and dedication to quality, produces the Billet Doux Late Harvest wine from the Alexander Valley. This wine is crafted from carefully selected grapes, often including varietals like Sauvignon Blanc or Semillon, which are left on the vine longer to develop concentrated sugars and flavors. The Alexander Valley, part of California's renowned Sonoma County, provides an ideal climate for late harvest wines, with warm days and cool nights that enhance the grapes' natural acidity and sweetness. The winemaking process involves meticulous hand-harvesting and gentle pressing, followed by fermentation in French oak barrels, which adds complexity and depth. The resulting wine is rich and luscious, with notes of ripe stone fruits, honey, and a hint of citrus, balanced by a vibrant acidity. It pairs beautifully with desserts like fruit tarts or blue cheese, offering a delightful end to any meal.

Professional Scores

The 2011 Billet Doux, Morlet's Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc sweet wine from a site in Alexander Valley, is terrific. Then again, the cool, rainy vintage provided optimal conditions for achieving rot in the vineyard, which gave growers fits with the reds, but was a positive here. Orange peel, burnt sugar, apricot jam, coconut and tropical frits honey and wild flowers are all beautifully delineated in the glass. Ample, rich and super-expressive, the Billet Doux is superb today. The 2011 has 95 grams of residual sugar, but tastes and feels quite a bit richer than that.
