Very Olde St. Nick Ancient Cask 8 Year Rye comes from one of the more unusual and collectible names in American whiskey. Originally created for the Japanese export market, Very Olde St. Nick became known for releasing tiny lots of mature, sourced whiskey long before older American whiskey became fashionable. This particular Ancient Cask release is an 8-year-old rye sourced from Alberta Distillers in Canada, selected and bottled under the Very Olde St. Nick label by the team behind Preservation Distillery in Bardstown. Bottled at 86.8 proof, it offers a rich, softer style of mature rye with caramel and butterscotch sweetness, toasted oak and rye spice, along with the oily texture for which this release is known. An interesting piece of the Very Olde St. Nick story and a distinctly different style of rye from the brand’s newer American-sourced releases.
