| If you’ve ever been asked your “desert island wine,” you know how impossible that question can be. For me, it’s not just a wine. It’s a winery: Shafer Vineyards in the legendary Stag’s Leap District. For more than 20 years, Shafer’s iconic Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon has been my measuring stick for Napa Cabernet. From the first vintage I tasted — the 1995 Hillside — to the heartbreaking moment I passed on a bottle of the 100-point 2002 (in favor of my dream set of Mizuno MP-60 irons), Shafer has defined what great Napa Cab means to me.
