Boss Hog XII “Feather & Flame” is a masterclass in barrel innovation—this limited-edition release starts with a bold, 100% straight rye whiskey, matured in new American oak, then finished in rare Pulque Curado de Cacao barrels. These finishing barrels had previously housed pulque (the traditional Mexican fermented agave-sap beverage), infused with cacao, imparting deep, rich chocolate, earthy sweetness, and a whisper of agave tradition layered over the fiery rye spice. At cask strength (about 104.8 proof / ~52.4 % ABV), each bottle is a single, numbered barrel pick—so the unique interaction between rye character and cacao-pulque seasoning is preserved without dilution. The finish gives it luxurious depth: roasted cocoa nibs, dark chocolate over oak, warm spice, and a long, lingering bittersweet glow—everything you want in a boundary-pushing rye.
