 Waterford Irish Whiskey Zoom Tasting w/Raj Sabharwal owner of Glass Revolution
Wednesday, January 20th 7-8:30pm (room opens at 6:30) On Jan 20th, Welcome back our friend, Raj Sabharwal, importer, spirits expert and one of the true gents in the industry. Raj is focusing on the long awaited project from former Bruichladdich distillery co-owner, Mark Reynier. Below is his mission statement for the distillery
“We chose Waterford, for here on the banks of the river Suir, on Ireland’s sunny south-eastern coast, we have an exceptional state-of-the-art facility originally built by Diageo in 2004 and converted to distilling in 2015. And we have the finest quality raw materials: the purest of spring water from renowned ancient wells; a team of passionate distillers that share the vision; and the very best barley in the world. Using the world's finest barley, our Single Farm Origin series is an uber- provenance range of natural whiskies that explore Irish terroir one place, one farm, at a time. Barley-forward, terroir-driven, natural whisky. No coloring, chill-filtration or any additives whatsoever.”

This is another rock-star chardonnay from here with dried-apple, pear-skin, crushed-stone and peach-pit character. Full body. Creamy texture. Phenolic form and a long, flavorful finish.

The only Grenache-dominated release is the 2017 Côte A Côte, a blend of 48% Grenache, 32% Mourvèdre, and the rest Syrah that spent 14 months in 30% new French oak. It's one sexy red that offers full-bodied richness and depth as well as brilliant notes of blackberries, black raspberries, ground pepper, potpourri, and flowery incense aromas and flavors. This smoking Grenache is elegant, with no hard edges, beautiful purity, and a great finish. It shows how successful Grenache was in 2017 and is a magical wine.

L'Aventure Wines huge scores!
The flagship 2017 Estate Cuvée (49% Syrah, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 21% Petit Verdot) spent 15 months in 90% new French oak, and I certainly blew the barrel review on this wine. It offers a brilliant bouquet of crème de cassis, crushed violets, lead pencil, chocolate, and a rocking sense of minerality. Deep, full-bodied, concentrated, and seamless on the palate, it's about as polished and sexy as they come in the vintage.

We sent them a fresh dumped Blanton's Bourbon Barrel and they used one of their barrels to make a bigger batch.
