Blaugies Blidegarian Imperial Stout is a rare dark ale from Brasserie de Blaugies, a farmhouse brewery in Belgium’s Hainaut region best known for its rustic saisons. Brewed in collaboration with American brewer Sean “Blidegarian” Blide, this stout represents a technical departure from Blaugies’ usual mixed-fermentation beers — a high-gravity ale fermented warm with a Belgian yeast strain to achieve both depth and expressive ester character. At around 9% ABV, it layers pale, chocolate, and roasted barley malts for a dense profile of espresso, bitter cocoa, and dark caramel. Unlike British or American imperial stouts, Blidegarian retains a distinctly Belgian fermentation signature — hints of dark fruit, spice, and phenolic dryness balancing the roast.
