Groom Description
This wine is produced from our estate vineyard in the Kalimna area of the Barossa Valley. The area is home to some of Australia’s greatest Shiraz vineyards. Known for its unforgiving soils we felt it a perfect site to help pioneer the Zinfandel grape into Australia. The vines were grown in a traditional head-trained method, commonly referred to as “bush vines” in Australia. This training produces lower yields and more concentrated berries. 2015 was an outstanding vintage!. We had ample rains of 2 inches in January which gave the vines a nice drink and a great kick start to ripening. Ideal climatic conditions followed with no severe heat waves to worry about. We achieved ample and optimum ripeness Our 2015 Zinfandel is arguably the best we have made. The nose is unmistakably Zinfandel in fruit character with distinct red fruit characters and some lovely spice. The wine is medium bodied and structured with evident bright acidity, finishing with soft tannins. This is a lot bigger and richer wine than the previous 2014 vintage being almost 2% higher in alcohol.
